The Active Joe Pledges Financial Donation to TX LODD Task Force

Updated: Jun 15, 2020

06.07.2013 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE               Contact: Wendy Norris- 832-647-6770

The Active Joe, a road race event production company in DFW specializing in half and full marathon races, has announced a $10,000 donation to the Texas Line of Duty Death Task Force.

The Active Joe owner and race director Libby Jones said, “I wanted to help after the fertilizer explosion in West, Texas, and in a place where we could make a specific difference in peoples’ lives. With a runner friend who is a member of the Texas Line of Duty Death Task Force, I learned of the financial funding required for them to continue their mission and knew our race participants would agree that this is a great cause to be associated with.”

There have already been Texas 18 firefighter and EMS casualties year-to-date, when in a typical year Texas has an average of 6 fallen firefighters. A majority of these casualties came from the fertilizer explosion in West, Texas.

The TX LODD Task Force spent a couple weeks in West, expending some of their annually-raised funds in providing caring and objective assistance to the departments who suffered line of duty injuries and deaths and worked to show honor to the fallen in all their efforts. The Active Joe’s donation will help defray some of those costs, as well as the costs of the Fallen Heroes Retreat, the yearly retreat for the survivor families, and the costs of additional assistance the Task Force provides to survivor families as they move forward.

Additionally, The Active Joe will donate $5 for every participant who signs up between now and July 4th. Registration is currently open for two of their race events:

Those interested are encouraged to visit www.TheActiveJoe.com to see how to sign up for each event.

Jones said, “The Active Joe is a small business producing purposefully smaller personalized events with a focus on giving back to the community. We’re happy that, with this donation, in a little over two years we’ve been able to continuously follow through on that commitment, with over $40,000 in donations to great causes, and this is another place where we wanted to lend a hand.”

The Texas Line of Duty Task Force is a non-profit organization with the mission to provide excellent, compassionate, and immediate care to those who have been injured in the line of duty and to the families of those who have died in the line of duty.  The Task Force provides such services as notification, funeral/memorial planning, benefits filings, social services and long term care to families and affected departments.  The average time spent caring for a family is 3-5 years, although some families have been under the care of the Task Force for 10 years.
